After what feels like an eternity since The Last of Us concluded, compounded by writers’ strikes and delays, the wait for Season 2 is nearly over with our first proper glimpse now available.
The Max 2024-2025 trailer is brimming with previews of highly anticipated shows set to premiere over the next year-and-a-half. Among the highlights are the newest season of The White Lotus and an exciting first look at the Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
‘The Last of Us’ Season 2
Season one, which premiered in 2023, skyrocketed to success, becoming HBO’s most-watched debut season in history. With the release date for Season 2 set to premiere on HBO sometime in 2025, with streaming available on Max in the US and for UK fans the action will be coming to SKY TV.
Craig Mazin has revealed that the second season will consist of only 7 episodes, which is notably shorter than the 10 episodes in the first season. However, he has disclosed that one of the Season 2 episodes will be “quite big” in length. Mazin also indicated that a potential third season would be “significantly larger,” with the possibility of a fourth season also on the table.
‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms follows the journey of Ser Duncan the Tall, a lowborn knight nicknamed “Dunk,” as he navigates the challenges of Westeros without wealth or powerful allies. The first season adapts George R.R. Martin’s novella, The Hedge Knight, which chronicles Dunk’s adventures at the Tourney at Ashford. Along the way, Dunk is joined by a bald young boy named “Egg” who becomes his squire. At Ashford, Dunk encounters Tanselle, a captivating Dornish puppeteer. When Prince Aerion Targaryen assaults Tanselle, Dunk’s intervention sets off a violent chain of events, thrusting him into a world of intrigue and danger.
The official HBO logline reads: “A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros, a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
‘Welcome to Derry’
Welcome to Derry will return to the quiet town of Derry, Maine, during the 1960s, prior to the events of the IT movies. The series will delve into Pennywise’s origins while also introducing new horrors. The series originates from a story by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, inspired by Stephen King’s novel It.
Bill Skarsgård first brought Pennywise to life in 2017’s It and reprised the role in the 2019 sequel, It Chapter Two. Despite some criticism about the character’s overly monstrous appearance in the recent films, Skarsgård has been widely praised for his performance, especially his ability to blend soft-spoken creepiness with an extreme menacing tone. Fans will undoubtedly be pleased to hear of his return in the lead role.
‘The White Lotus’ Season 3
The White Lotus returns with fresh faces at a hotel in Thailand, staying true to the show’s tradition of paradise locations. The new season features a lineup of newcomers, including Jason Isaacs and Parker Posey, along with a brief appearance by Natasha Rothwell, reprising her Season 1 role as Belinda. While the newcomers appear all smiles, fans know those smiles won’t last, as vacations at this resort rarely end well.
