Prepare to return to the grandeur of the colosseum as Paramount Pictures releases the official trailer for Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II, featuring Paul Mescal in the role of a grown-up Lucius. This highly anticipated sequel is set to hit theaters in November.

In the original Gladiator film, Lucius, then a child, is the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and the nephew of Commodus, the antagonist played by Joaquin Phoenix.
The sequel takes place years later, Lucius lives in Numidia, a northern African region where his mother sent him as a child, away from the Roman Empire’s reach. Fate brings Lucius back to Rome, where he becomes embroiled in the harsh arena of gladiators. There, he encounters new challenges, including Roman general Acacius, played by Pedro Pascal, while also reuniting with his mother, Lucilla.
Additionally, the trailer sees Denzel Washington as Macrinus, a former slave who has risen to become a prominent merchant and arms dealer. Fred Hechinger takes on the role of Emperor Caracalla, while Connie Nielsen reprises her character Lucilla, Lucius’ mother from the original film. Joseph Quinn portrays Emperor Gata, Caracalla’s brother, rounding out the ensemble cast.
The official synopsis reads, From legendary director Ridley Scott, Gladiator II continues the epic saga of power, intrigue, and vengeance set in Ancient Rome.
