With the release of Universal’s upcoming psychological thriller Speak No Evil, you can now watch a behind-the-scenes video featuring the cast and crew. In the clip, they share insights about the film’s intense, unfolding psychological nightmare, while offering a glimpse of never-before-seen footage. Watch the cast and crew break down the film in the video below: Speak No Evil | A Look Inside.
James McAvoy stars as Paddy, an overbearing, perfection-obsessed father. On holiday with his wife Ciara (Aisling Franciosi) and their mute son Ant (Dan Hough), they meet an American couple, Louise (Mackenzie Davis) and Ben (Scoot McNairy), along with their 11-year-old daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler). After forming a connection, Paddy invites the family for a weekend getaway, but his increasingly aggressive behavior soon begins to unsettle them.
The video kicks off with James McAvoy reflecting on the film’s unsettling nature, stating, “The DNA of Speak No Evil is constantly playing with what’s acceptable and what is not acceptable.” His comment sets the tone for the film’s exploration of psychological boundaries and societal norms. Scoot McNairy follows up with a bold declaration, calling the film “a total mind fuck,” giving us a glimpse into the intense, unpredictable ride the movie promises to deliver.
The official synopsis for the film reads, “When an American family is invited to spend the weekend at the idyllic country estate of a charming British family they befriended on vacation, what begins as a dream holiday soon warps into a snarled psychological nightmare.”
Speak No Evil is a remake of the haunting 2022 Danish horror film Gæsterne, directed by Christian Tafdrup and co-written with Mads Tafdrup. The 2024 version is helmed by The Woman in Black director James Watkins, with a script written by Watkins himself. Horror powerhouse Blumhouse is producing the remake, with Jason Blum and Paul Ritchie leading the project.
An intriguing psychological thriller, Speak No Evil may hint at more of James McAvoy’s chilling versatility, potentially drawing parallels to his role in Split. The film is set to hit theaters on September 13, 2024, with its UK release a day earlier on September 12.
