Keanu Reeves is best known for his iconic roles in films like John Wick and The Matrix, but one of his most beloved and memorable performances came in Constantine, where he portrayed the tormented detective-exorcist from the DC Comics universe. Fans of the 2005 cult-classic have long been eager to see Reeves reprise his role as John Constantine, and it seems that the wait might finally be coming to an end. In 2022, it was announced that Reeves and director Francis Lawrence would reunite for the much-anticipated sequel to Constantine. However, Warner Bros. and DC have since undergone significant creative changes, leaving the film’s future in a bit of limbo.
Nearly two decades after the original hit theaters, updates on Constantine 2 have been slow, with the movie’s development dragging on for years, it’s no surprise that Warner Bros. Discovery and the creative team are taking their time to carefully craft this unexpected follow-up. However, recent updates suggest that progress is finally being made, with reports indicating that the script for Constantine 2 is complete—an encouraging sign that production may be inching closer to starting.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed that Constantine 2 has a finished script, though he admits he’s “too scared” to read it.
You know it’s in my inbox right now. Funny enough, I’m too scared to read it, though. I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane.

His reluctance to dive into the script highlights just how high the stakes are for this sequel, as the team behind the movie is clearly feeling the pressure to deliver a follow-up that lives up to the original’s cult status.
John Constantine became a fan-favorite after Reeves brought him to life in the 2005 live-action adaptation. At the time, Constantine wasn’t a massive box office success, but over the years it has grown into a cult hit, with fans clamoring for a sequel. Even Keanu Reeves himself has expressed his desire to return to the role, stating on multiple occasions that he would love to make Constantine 2 happen.
With the script for Constantine 2 only just landing in Bonaventura’s lap, it will still be a while before production officially begins. Given the ongoing overhaul of the DC Universe under James Gunn’s leadership—along with major projects like the highly anticipated Superman—it’s unclear how Constantine 2 will fit into these new plans. One possibility is that the sequel could exist in a separate DC universe, much like Matt Reeves‘ The Batman. While a production start as early as 2025 might be ambitious, there’s hope that the film could hit theaters within the next few years. We’ll keep you posted with any further updates on the film’s progress.
