The now updated full title of the film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga was unveiled at CCXP, Brazil’s biggest Comic-Con event. At the event Chris Hemsworth joined the director on stage to describe his character, saying.

“He’s a complicated individual. He’s a very violent, insane, brutal person that is born from the Wasteland, which is the world the ‘Mad Max’ saga takes place in. He’s a product of his environment,” Hemsworth says of his character, Dementus. “He has been birthed into a space where it’s kill or be killed. He’s learned to rule with an iron fist. There’s a charisma to him and it’s a very manipulative charisma.”

The official synopsis for the film, reads. “As the world falls, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and into the hands of a Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. While two Tyrants war for dominance over the Citadel, Furiosa survives many trials as she plots a way back home through the Wasteland.”

Furiosa was actually conceived before Fury Road was made, Miller and Lathouris wrote a script that predated Fury Road. But the project was held up for years due to legal battles between Miller and the studio over Fury Road profits.

Furiosa will be in theaters May 24, 2024.
