Netflix have dropped the trailer for their six-episode drama Griselda with Sofía Vergara playing the title role of Miami drug queenpin Griselda Blanco.
Vergara is well know for her comedic roles but will show a different side to her acting, taking on Netflix‘s drama about the Colombian drug cartel leader, in what is an impressive transformation, she is barely recognizable.
The trailer opens up with a court scene in which a woman says, “For the last three years Griselda Blanco has owned Miami, distributing cocaine”. The man beside her continues, “Ms. Blanco’s operation has been, efficient, deadly, and incredibly successful.”
The trailer reminds us that this is based on true events, Griselda Blanco, known by a multitude of nicknames including the ‘Queen of Cocaine,’ ‘The Black Widow,’ & ‘The Boss’ was a notorious Colombian drug lord who played a significant role in the drug trade during the late 20th century. Born on February 15, 1943, Blanco rose to prominence as a key figure in the Medellín Cartel, one of the most powerful drug cartels in history. She gained notoriety for her ruthlessness and involvement in drug trafficking, particularly in the United States.
The series was created by Narcos and Narcos: Mexico showrunner Eric Newman and is directed by Andrés Baiz.
Griselda will premiere January 25, 2024 on Netflix.
