Renowned detective Benoit Blanc returns to unravel another enigma in Rian Johnson’s third Knives Out installment, ‘Wake Up Dead Man.’ Johnson revealed the film’s title and its 2025 release date in a teaser shared on X on Friday morning.
A 45-second video on Johnson’s X page officially confirmed that Daniel Craig will return as Benoit Blanc in the upcoming movie, set to premiere on Netflix next year. The streaming giant also announced on its Tudum site that Craig will reprise his role as Blanc to tackle a new murder mystery.
“In the beginning, the knives came out. Then, behold, the glass was shattered. But my most dangerous case yet is about to be revealed,” narrates Daniel Craig in the title announcement video teased by Netflix and Johnson.
Wake Up Dead Man will be released by Netflix as part of Johnson’s $450 million deal for two sequels with the streaming service. Despite the first film, distributed by Lionsgate, earning $312 million worldwide, Netflix opted for a limited theatrical release for Glass Onion, which garnered only $13 million before its streaming debut.
Knives Out followed detective Benoit Blanc as he delved into the murder of a wealthy patriarch within a dysfunctional family. The sequel Glass Onion then took Benoit Blanc to a secluded island in Greece for what initially seemed like a harmless ‘murder mystery weekend’ hosted by a tech billionaire—until a real murder took place. This film earned a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 95th Annual Academy Awards.
Wake Up Dead Man is expected to follow a similar release strategy to Glass Onion and have a limited theatrical release ahead of landing on Netflix in 2025. We will keep you updated with any further developments.
