20th Century Studios has released the final trailer for the latest installment in their ‘Planet of the Apes’ series. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, will usher in a new era, set several generations after the reign of Caesar.
The trailer unveils a crucial plot element. The latest installment follows Noa, living in a world 300 years after Caesar’s rule. The story revolves around him and his conflict with Proximus Caesar, a tyrannical ape looking to harness human technology to become an all-powerful ruler.
In this new world, where apes reign supreme under the tyranny of their king, humans are reduced to scavenging what little remains, while being hunted by their ape overlords. The trailer depicts Freya Allan’s character being pursued by gorillas as she desperately seeks refuge. Hiding amidst the tall grass, she is ultimately rescued by Noa.
The official synopsis for the film reads: Many years after the reign of Caesar, a young ape goes on a journey that will lead him to question everything he’s been taught about the past and make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.
The Apes movies were first brought to the screen in 1968 with the Charlton Heston-led Planet of the Apes, which was loosely based on a 1963 novel written by Pierre Boulle. The success of the original film led to the creation of a franchise that includes multiple sequels, television series, and reboots.
Alongside Allan the cast also includes Owen Teague, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon, and William H. Macy.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is directed by Wes Ball and will be in cinemas May 10, with select theaters having previews May 9.
