Mission: Impossible is living up to its name after more delays hit the production of the 8th installment. Last year’s strikes caused delays across the entire film industry, but now Mission 8 has suffered further setbacks due to a malfunction with a £23 million submarine.
Sources from The Mirror have revealed that the gimbal, used to lower the 120-foot-high structure, jammed under its weight and required repairs. This setback has delayed filming by weeks and increased costs. The source said: “They’re not happy as it puts production behind, which costs a lot of money per day.”
With filming being pushed back, the knock-on effect is rumored to be pushing the film’s budget close to a whopping $400 million. Pressure is increasing on Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie to meet an already delayed release date.
Last month, Paramount postponed the release of ‘Mission: Impossible 8’ from June 2024 to May 23, 2025, delaying the film by an entire year. Additionally, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will no longer be titled ‘Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part II’ and will receive a new, yet-to-be-announced title.
Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning received critical acclaim and was hailed as one of Cruise’s best installments in the franchise. He was particularly praised for the high level of stunts he performed with the film receiving a 4.5-star review from us. Unfortunately, Mission 7’s box office results fell well short of expectations.
Mission: Impossible 8 is set to hit theaters on May 23, 2025. We will keep you updated on any further developments.
