After the tremendous success of Dune: Part Two, the prospect of Dune 3 seems almost inevitable, doesn’t it? However, Denis Villeneuve had previously made it clear that he won’t proceed with a third installment simply for the sake of it. He has insisted that ‘Dune 3’ had to be better than its predecessor saying “If we go back, it needs to be real. It needs to be relevant, if ever I do Dune Messiah, [it’s] because it’s going to be better than Part Two. Otherwise, I don’t do it.”
In the meantime, Dune: Part Two, starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, continues to rake in the box office week after week, accumulating an impressive $630 million worldwide. With that success in mind, it appears to be too good of an opportunity for the production company. So now, as reported by Deadline Legendary has confirmed that part 3 is in development, with Villeneuve at the helm, he WILL complete his Dune trilogy.

What is ‘Nuclear War: A Scenario’
Nuclear War: A Scenario is a nonfiction book from Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen. Legendary Entertainment has optioned the book in a $500,000 deal and expect Villeneuve to take on the project after the completion of Dune: Messiah.
The plot of the New York Times bestseller delves into a ticking-clock scenario, envisioning the potential outcomes of a nuclear war. Drawing from numerous exclusive interviews with military and civilian experts intimately involved in building the weapons, formulating response plans, and being entrusted with the weighty decisions that such a catastrophic event would demand.
Legendary will look to follow on from the huge interest and success of Oppenheimer, which tells the story of the development of the A-bomb in a race against Nazi Germany. The expectation is that an adaptation of Nuclear War: A Scenario would be a chilling tale about a world where too many countries have nuclear capabilities in an age of political unrest, and how our own weaponry could destroy the world.
However, both of these projects are expected to come after Villeneuve’s rumored next film, which is an adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke’s Rendezvous With Rama. He is indeed a busy man!
