Immaculate stars Sydney Sweeney as Cecilia, a deeply religious woman who moves into a convent in the Italian countryside, she soon learns her new home holds terrifying secrets. When she falls pregnant with a seemingly miraculous child things take a horrific turn.
Directed by Michael Mohan and written by Andrew Lobel Immaculate will be released in theaters March 22 in the US. A UK release date has yet to be confirmed.
The new Red-Band trailer opens with Sweeney saying, “God saved me for a reason, but I’m still searching for what that reason is.”
During her stay she experiences an immaculate pregnancy, witnesses a suicide, gets slapped by an evil nun, drowned and dresses up as the Virgin Mary in what looks a generic horror.
In an interview with Deadline Sweeney describes the film. “It’s madness. I go unhinged, which always is fun. But it’s also beautiful. I really wanted to make sure that it was a beautifully shot horror film because we were filming in such a beautiful location. Rome is stunning, so I wanted to do the locations justice.”
Alongside Sweeney the cast includes Álvaro Morte, Benedetta Porcaroli, Dora Romano, Giorgio Colangeli and Simona Tabasco.
Immaculate will be in US theaters March 22.
