With the full release of John Krasinski’s IF just days away, Paramount Pictures has unveiled a new clip offering a fresh look at the movie starring Ryan Reynolds.
Over the past weekend, early previews of this sweet-natured drama were screened, sparking early praise. Social media is already abuzz with compliments for the film, which is already being labeled ‘heartfelt’ and ‘adorable.’
IF centers on a young girl named Bea (Cailey Fleming), who is going through a difficult personal phase. Unexpectedly, she begins to encounter abandoned imaginary friends all around, mirroring her neighbor Cal’s (Reynolds) experiences. Together, they embark on a journey to reunite these orphaned ‘IFs’ with their original children.

Director John Krasinski has a wealth of Hollywood heavyweights among his cast that includes wife Emily Blunt, former The Office co-star Steve Carell as well as, of course Ryan Reynolds, Matt Damon, Sam Rockwell, Maya Rudolph, Awkwafina and Jon Stewart.
Speaking with Jimmy Fallon, Krasinski described how his children and the challenges of Covid had inspired him, recalling, “Genuinely, I saw their light starting to go out, and they started playing fewer and fewer imaginary games.” He added “I used to just stand in the doorway and watch my kids disappear in this magical world that we, as parents, aren’t allowed in,” he explained. “And it wasn’t just like the joy that was on their face, it was how authentic they were — they could be anything they wanted in this world. And I said, ‘Em, that would make a great movie.’”
IF will have its full release in cinemas worldwide May 17.
