Having recently acquired true survival tale Society Of The Snow, Netflix have released a trailer for the harrowing story from 1972, when a plane carrying a rugby team crashed in the freezing Andes mountain’s.
The 1972 Andes plane crash involved Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, a chartered flight carrying 45 passengers, including members of a Uruguayan rugby team, their friends, and family. On October 13, 1972, the plane crashed in the Andes Mountains in Argentina. The survivors faced extreme conditions, including harsh weather and limited food supplies. Over the following weeks, some passengers died due to injuries, avalanches, and exposure to the elements. To survive, the remaining survivors resorted to drastic measures.

The story has been dramatized before in 1993’s Alive which featured Ethan Hawke among the cast. Society Of The Snow features a more authentic Spanish speaking cast comprised of Enzo Vogrincic, Agustín Pardella, Matías Recalt, Esteban Bigliardi, Diego Vegezzi, Fernando Contigiani García, Esteban Kukuriczka, Rafael Federman, Francisco Romero and Valentino Alonso.
Society Of The Snow is based on the book Society of the Snow: the definitive account of the world’s greatest survival story by Pablo Vierci.

Directed by J.A. Bayona (The Impossible) Society Of The Snow will represent Spain as its submission for best international feature at the 96th Academy Awards.
Society Of The Snow will have a limited release in theaters on December 22, ahead of arriving on Netflix on January 4.
