During a recent interview with NME, Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, unveiled that filming for the highly anticipated movie will commence in September. “We’ve got everything sorted, we’ve got all the commitments we need, we are ready to go.”
Peaky Blinders tells the story of a criminal gang from Birmingham in the aftermath of World War I. Over its six seasons spanning from 2013 to 2022, the series has garnered a substantial following worldwide. Cillian Murphy’s portrayal of Tommy Shelby, now an Oscar winner, played a pivotal role in the series’ acclaim.
Knight continued by praising Murphy, “I’m so pleased for him because he deserves it. After every award that he won, he would text and say, ‘I really can’t wait to be doing Peaky.’ Confirming that none of this was going to change what we’re going to do next.”
Knight also revealed that filming will commence this September, saying, “It’s gonna happen. It’s gonna happen this September. I’m just doing the final polishes, which will continue up until the day before we start shooting. But we’re there. We’ve got everything sorted, we’ve got all the commitments we need, we are ready to go.”
He also confirmed that the movie has a significant budget, saying, “The budget will be bigger, but also because we know we’re ending this chapter, we’re all going to try to do our best. Cillian is really up for it.” When asked what viewers can expect from the film, Knight replied, “I hope shocked and delighted and horrified and then delighted again and then shocked again!”
While no specifics have emerged regarding the plot of the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie, it’s anticipated to continue from the dramatic finale of season 6, where Tommy leaves his old life and is believed to be dead. It’s an exciting prospect.
