Disney Announces Cinematic Slate for 2024 and Beyond

Disney has officially broken into the new year with a brand new release slate, detailing titles set for 2024 and well beyond.

Disney has made their first big splash of the new year, dropping their updated release slate alongside a teaser trailer for the long rumored sequel to Moana. On top of more information for releases already confirmed (such as Inside Out 2), a bevy of new announcements were made as well. With Moana 2 included, Disney (and their conglomerates) will total 7 cinematic releases before the ball drops on a new year, covering just about every possible base.

This year will see a heavy dose of mature content, from horror/thriller movies with Alien: Romulus and The First Omen to the undoubtedly violent Deadpool 3, Disney’s animation sequels are just about all they’ve got to offer the kiddos and families on the big screen this year.

Also on the calendar are Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and The Amateur, set to drop in the summer and fall quarters, respectively. Beyond 2024, Disney also confirmed multiple high-hype sequels under the umbrellas of some of their most stories franchises. Namely, Zootopia 2, Frozen 3, and Toy Story 5 are all in active development. Specific plot details have yet to be revealed but that hasn’t stopped diehard fans from speculating their hearts out on Twitter, despite brewing worries about the non-necessity of the three.

Rounding off the last of the new slate is Captain America: Brave New World, Elio, and, of course, Avatar 3, 4, and 5; the first three of which will release next year, with the subsequent Avatar sequels to follow in 2029 and 2031, finally. This packed slate is further proof that many are likely fans of Disney without really even realizing that they’re fans of Disney; Mickey has a hand (glove… foot?) in everything.

The specific, detailed slate is as follows, in-order of release:

  • Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes – May 10, 2024
  • Inside Out 2 – June 14, 2024
  • Deadpool 3 – July 26, 2024
  • Alien: Romulus – August 16, 2024
  • The Amateur – November 8, 2024
  • Moana 2 – November 27, 2024
  • Captain America: Brave New World – February 14, 2025

  • Avatar 3 – December 19, 2025
  • Avatar 4 – December 21, 2029
  • Avatar 5 – December 19, 2031

Now, knowing the folks at Disney, they may very well have a few things up their sleeves not yet announced, and therefore not on this list. But, for now, this is the totality of what we’ve been given. That isn’t to say that it’s sparse, by any means; fans of pretty much every wider franchise have been thrown a bone with this string of announcements, given a date to circle on their calendars and a new set of accounts to follow online.

As always, Disney does the most. As the dates pass by and the list unfolds, we’ll keep you updated on all the happenings in between.
