Oppenheimer stars Emily Blunt and Matt Damon heap praise on their co-star Cillian Murphy. Who plays J. Robert Oppenheimer in the upcoming biographical film, it follows the theoretical physicist’s role in the creation of the atomic bomb. Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film hits theaters July 21.
In an interview with The New York Times, Damon talks about the scale and demands of the film, while Blunt talks with great admiration of her co-star. Both saying.
Matt Damon “[Oppenheimer] was a marathon. When you are at the center of a movie at that scale, shooting seven scenes in a day, it takes a different focus and concern and commitment. It’s beautiful to watch someone give themselves to it fully.”
Emily Blunt “[Murphy] leads with truth, he isn’t an actor who chews the scenery. There aren’t many people who can seemingly do nothing and be magnetic like him. And it’s not just about those laser beams on his face! He has thought about every detail. This movie explores not only the trauma of living with a brain like Oppenheimer’s, but what you do with it, and what lengths you are willing to go to. Cillian is brilliant at playing that ambiguity of intention.”
For the first time in a Chris Nolan film, Cillian Murphy takes the lead role, playing the “father of the atomic bomb” J. Robert Oppenheimer.
Murphy has expressed his desire to be the lead for Nolan after featuring in five of the directors movies, saying.
“I have always said publicly and privately, to Chris, that if I’m available and you want me to be in a movie, I’m there. I don’t really care about the size of the part,” Murphy said. “But deep down, secretly, I was desperate to play a lead for him.”
Oppenheimer is based on the book American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin.
With fears that scientists were working for Adolf Hitler on a nuclear weapon of their own. A team of scientists and military officials were determined to beat Germany to it. Lead by J. Robert Oppenheimer.
