In 2021, Netflix’s South Korean survival drama series Squid Game became a global phenomenon, capturing audiences worldwide in an incredible and unexpected way, garnering a staggering 265 million views.
The show follows a group of financially struggling individuals who are invited to participate in a mysterious, high-stakes competition with a massive cash prize for the winner. The contestants, facing debt and desperation, engage in a series of deadly children’s games, each with its own deadly consequences. As the challenges become increasingly intense, the characters must navigate moral dilemmas, betrayal, and the harsh realities of the competition. The series explores themes of socio-economic inequality, human nature, and the consequences of desperate choices.
Netflix has finally given us a small glimpse of Season 2. A short and sweet video shows Season One survivor Lee Jung-jae returning as Seong Gi-hun, having survived the bloodbath of the previous games. He appears to be on a mission of revenge to find the villains behind the original games, warning them, “I will find you, no matter what it takes.” You can watch the short clip below, along with three new still images that have been released.
Netflix has yet to give us an official release date for the new season, but it’s been included as part of the ‘Next On Netflix’ teaser, confirming that it will be at some point in 2024. You can watch that teaser below, which includes a number of new films and series set to land on Netflix this year. Check it out!
