Jennifer Lopez Joins Forces with Artificial Intelligence in Netflix’s Futuristic Thriller ‘Atlas’

Lopez takes a mission to capture a renegade artificial intelligence!

Jennifer Lopez is arguably Netflix’s biggest star, having delivered a string of hits with the platform. Her latest endeavor, the 2023 thriller The Mother, proved to be a massive success for the streaming giant. Now, Lopez takes on a solo mission to save mankind, assisted by a formidable A.I.-powered robot suit.

The trailer begins with General Jake Boothe, played by Mark Strong, explaining, “Agent Atlas Shepherd has spent years of her life hunting the artificial intelligence known as Harlan, originally engineered to advance humanity, instead nearly ended it.” As she tracks down Harlan, portrayed by Simu Liu, who is resolute on wiping out humanity, Lopez and her A.I. companion engage in a desperate struggle for survival on a hostile planet.

Directed by Brad Peyton, Atlas sees Lopez grappling with her distrust of A.I. as the mission to capture the rogue artificial intelligence, with whom she has a shared history, goes awry.

The official synopsis for Atlas reads: Atlas Shepherd, a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence, joins a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. But when plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it.

Alongside Lopez (who is also producing), Strong and Liu the cast also includes, Sterling K. BrownLana Parrilla and Stephanie Heiner. All working from a script by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite.

Netflix’s recent action films like Heart of Stone have bombed, and fellow sci-fi Rebel Moon has faced criticism. Atlas needs to be more than just another generic Netflix movie. With Lopez on board, though, it seems primed for success.

Atlas will arrive on Netflix on May 24.
